From our winery at 1,380 meters, you’re already above the cloud line, right in the middle of the darkest part of the island, and it’s also the ideal starting point for a trip to the summit and its telescopes.

The greatest advantage of our location is the altitude. At 1,380 meters, the winery sits above the sea of trade wind clouds that covers the lower coastal areas for most of the year. What is a gray blanket for the coast is, for us, a natural barrier against moisture, haze, and the scattered light from the towns below.

You can see the results as soon as it gets dark. Because La Palma is the world’s first Starlight Reserve and has its own sky law that strictly limits light pollution, the Milky Way appears here with a clarity that many guests are seeing for the first time in their lives. This allows you to comfortably observe planets, constellations, and the Milky Way right from your accommodation—without having to drive anywhere or bring your own equipment.

Professional astrophotography equipment for use on our new observation platform, complete with a sturdy tripod, is available for rent from our partner, ATHOS Centro Astronómico. In all cases, the Sky-Watcher EQ6R mount system serves as the basis for renting the astrophotography equipment.

The mount is permanently mounted on a sturdy concrete pillar and is permanently aligned toward the North. You can pick up the necessary accessories included in the set (counterweight, power supply, hand controller, EQMOD cable) directly at the ATHOS Centro Astronómico and return them there at the end of the rental period.

4. Can you visit the observatory at Roque?

The observatory is an active research facility, but guided tours to select telescopes are available by appointment. Outside of these tours, you can admire the domes from the road and freely enjoy the viewpoints at the summit during the day.
